To put them simply,

The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes form. You cannot get free energy.
The second law of thermodynamics states that you can never achieve perfect energy conversion efficiencies.

These two laws are extremely important in science.

The 1st law is, energy and matter can not be created or destroyed. The 2nd is Entropy, or that energy moves toward less order.

First law is the law of conservation of energy

Second law determines whether a process is possible or not, even if energy is conserved in a particular process it may be impossible.

First says that energy is never created or destroyed. Second says that the universe is continually going into more disorder (entropy).
