oscar wilde was actually married and has descendants who disputed the claim that he was homosexual. the famous case that put oscar wilde in jail is often attributed to the fact that he was gay and having gay relations with a man--however there is some evidence that the friend and the friend's father were actually just out to get each other, that wilde got in the middle, and suffered the consequences--whether or not he was having gay relations with that friend or anyone? i'm not sure it's been proven. everyone assumes so because of his manner and way of dress, etc., but that was also a personal and trendy statement of the times.
