Thats a good point, I discussed this before.
I think Belushi would be funny if he was a skelton, he was a genius, maybe Candy too.
But their weight helped them no doubt. I think Chris Farley is the odd man out here, didn't think too much of him.
Kinison was awesome, and he died in a car wreck, not because of his health, though he may have been a ticking bomb with his weight and lifestyle.
There has always been a market for the fat man. Whats his name, Fatty Arbuckle a long time ago, and of course the great Jackie Gleason.

Perhaps but in a different way. They celebrated the fact that they were the overweight underdog. Look back to the Chippendale's skit with Chris Farley, John Candy flipping a huge pancake with a shovel, John Belushi stiffing his face with food and slapping his cheeks.

John Belushi probably would've still been funny, but John Candy and Chris Farley probably wouldn't have been.

I agree with Alan.
Belushi would have been funny still, but Chris Farley definitely wouldn't have. I mean, his greatest skits on SNL (like the motivational speaker and Chip N Dale dancer) were hilarious because he was so overweight.

A lot of overweight people in movies get the funny jokes. Personally, I never thought any of them were that funny, but weight doesn't make someone funny or not.

I think their size just gave them an "in" as it made them more visible. it might have taken longer and they might not have crawled into pill bottles w/o their girth.

but talent wise I think they still would have been funny, not exactly as famous, but just as funny

I think so. They made the most of their size in their comedy, but if they hadn't been overweight I think they would have made the most of something else.

Funny men, weight had nothing to do with it.

i was wondering that the other day... i don't think so. I mean, i think that being fat and funny for Hollywood's standards, go hand in hand. And they also have this in common: They are all dead.
