hey! does anybody know if 3D ultrasound might be able to tell the sex of the baby earlier than the traditonal one? I know it takes time until the baby completely developes all her organs. Given than 3D ultrasound gives you more details I was wondering when would it be helpful in determining the fetus gender. I am about 8 weeks pregnant. I plan on doing a 3D ultrasound but I would like to know what would be the best time to do it? Does anybody has an experience that she/he wants to share with me?

For the same amount of money you can get the new blood test, I forget the name of it. That is the only choice for an 8 week fetus. The soonest you can see gender on 3d is 13 weeks I believe. But that is if the patient is very thin and there is enough amniotic fluid. You can call the places where they do the 3d, they should know.

At around 20 wks you will be able to tell the babys sex clearly on a traditional ultrasound. I had a 4 d ultrasound done at 30 weeks, it was so wonderful, you can actually tell what the baby is going to look like. My ob recommened waiting until 30 weeks because the baby will be more developed. After 32 wks the baby is getting bigger and you will not be able to get all of the baby in the picture.
Good Luck

I think the recommended time for a 3D ultrasound is around the 24-30 week mark. You will be able to se much more than with a traditional ultrasound.

I had a level 2 ultrasound at 16 weeks and they were able to tell me girl. I would wait untill 20 weeks to do a 3D ultrasound, you baby will be well at the start of HER development and you may see her sex.

I think you already know you referred to your baby as "her".

A friend of mine did a 3D ultrasound around 6 months you could see the hair all over his body the shape of his nose. You could see all of the baby features it was cool to see.I think you have to wait until fourth month to tell the sex of the baby.

I have not heard of a 3D ultrasound, but I do have an experience that I can share, well I had an ultra sound with our daughter at 18 weeks , and they couldn't really tell what it was, but then at 34 weeks doc. thought I wasn't showing enough so I had to have another one done.We asked to see what it was, they said it's safe to say its a boy.And 5 weeks later we had a girl.I'm guessing the umbilical cord was mis-identified. So best of luck to you, I think the earliest they can tell is at 15 weeks, but proven fact that birth is the only way to verify the gender.
