I need help unclogging a toilet. I have tried plunging it, but that is not working. I really don't have the money to call a plumber. Is there any thing else I can do to try to unclog it myself?

I think I have a pretty decent plunger to use. Now a few of you have said to use drano/liquid plumber. On the bottle, it says not to use for toilets. Should I try it?

not sure if this will help, on the drano don;t use it , if the clog is in the toilet it self it might crack it , drano creates alot of heat,
to use the plunger make sure you have some water in the bowl of the boot press down on it and seat it tight and pull hard up , you should feel major resisistance if done correctly.
if not try again , once you get the feel of it pull but don;t break the seal of water push hard down and then pull hard up breaking the seal.
Question , does bowl fill up fast or kinda slow, if it fills up fast you can take the bowl off and get it out
you can get a plumbers snake , be careful it can and will crack the bowl( bowl being the part of the toilet attached to the floor)
if it fills up slow your clog is in the lines as long as the drano will go out of the bowl it might be safe to use , but i don;t recommend it , get the feel of the pluggering that is you best bet.

Make sure you have the plunger that looks like an accordian, this will work the best. Make sure you have ample water in the bowl, and get a good seal between the plunger and the drain before attempting to plunge.
Next would be to buy/rent a snake, basically a flexible rod that will push out the clog.
If neither of these work, it's possible your clog is further down the line, do you have problems with slow drains in other parts of your plumbing?

What kind of plunger do you have? Is it a flat one? If not you need one that is ball with a neck that inserts in the bottom of the commode. This will give you the hydraulic pressure you need to clear the clog. If you do have this type and it doesn't work you will need to snake it. There are commode snakes at any Home Depot type stores that are crank operated. I think they cost about 25-30 dollars. They are easy to operate. Good luck. If you can't clear it with this then, I'm sorry to say, you need a plumber.

If a plunger won't do, you could try a bucket of water that you dump in really fast. However make sure the water level in the bowl is back down to normal. Lastly if you are still having trouble and the bucket doesn't work, you may need to buy a snake from the hardware store.

You need what they call a SNAKE. You can get one at the hardware store. It unwinds and it goes down the toilet. Itll go a long way and then you wind it back up.
Also try liquid plumber. It works great most of the time. Id actually try that first. Pour it in, and let it sit. Buy the extra strength kind.
You could try a coat hanger too...bend it and stick it down in there.

If the plunger hasn't worked you might try a snake also known as an auger And since the plunger hasn't worked what kind of plunger is it? If it's one of those cheapy ones invest in a better plunger and that might just be all you need
