I'm a manager and I dont know it all, I think a lot of people in this position are afraid of looking stupid.
So what if one of your underlings comes up with a better solution to something, or shows a high degree of intiative, thats what they are getting paid for, you have already been there and been promoted on probably these same merits, I normally talk to my staff when I may be having difficulty with a situation. Taking advice from someone beneath you on the "ladder" is nothing to be afraid of, but to be dismissive of their suggestions on the basis that it is better than something that you come up with is "piss poor management", after all a manager is supposed to have the good of the company in mind, not pandering to their own ego

Some managers do.
I use to work p/t at the Airport and passengers swore they knew everything! Call for a manager and have their feelings hurt.

Well if they worked thier way up from a lower position, which is often the case. They forget about the mistakes they made and only remember doing it perfectly. Or, they know they don't know it all and want to just tell others the right way to do it.

I can assure you that some don't know it all and some don't insist that they do.
Those described so instead allow you to tell them what you know and then either use it against you or claim your ideas as yours.
A**eholes - don't get me started on them!
