I was just wondering what the stuff on the back of mirrors is. I'm talking about the chap vertical mirrors that you can buy at wal-mart for about $5 a pop. Is the reflective stuff painted on? Is there anyway I can do this myself to some plate glass o my own?

a cheap way is when I put this 'one way' plastic on my glass (so my dogs would not yap at the door just because they saw me).
I could see out, but all they would see in was themselves.
I'm sure it would work or your glass as a mirror. I got it at Home Depot. Also put it on the entrance glass on either side of the door. I could look out, but the person at the door could not see me. Also good at a heat reflector in Summer.
