If I travel 10 miles east and then turn left and travel 22miles and then turn right to travel another 10 miles before deciding to go back to where I started taking a straight road, how many miles would I have to travel in getting back to the point I started from ?

Assuming Euclidian geometry, the straight line would be 29.7321 miles.

However, the query seems to carefully avoid mentioning that the first left turn is North.

Suppose the traveler started 11 miles south of the North pole, and that the left turn and 22 mile journey actually crosses the North Pole at the halfway point. The traveler would end up again 11 miles south of the North Pole. Thus a 22 mile journey would again cross the North Pole, and return the traveler to the origin.

If the travelor lived on a torus with inner circumference of 10 miles, and sectional circumference of 22 miles, the traveler would visit the origin at both turns and at the finish making the final journey completely unnessary.

1) 10^2+22^2=584-----> square root of 584=24.16

2) 22^2+10^2=584----->square root of 584=24.16

Resultant is the big line uniting both triangles
Resultant=48.33
