Granted Bush, like McCarthy holds power by scaring people to death. But some people never learn.

Remember the GOP blocked the WWII Memorial for 50 years. Until Wall Mart raised the money and started building their own WWII memorial.
Finally Congress broke down and excepted the WallMart design and approved the construction.

McCarthy's paranoia about communists here in the US turned out to be false, but he had destroyed the reputations and livelihood of thousands of liberals before the truth came out.
