I cannot say why it takes so long, but I can tell you it takes a long time for movies to come to the theaters in the U.S. Three years ago my son was in Las Vegas and he worked as security on the movie set of Lucky You starring Drew Barrymore. That movie is just now coming out in the U.S. Apparently it takes a long time in post-production to finish a movie, and then they usually release it first in the states and then internationally.

To know how much they have to spend on hype for the UK. So they test it on America. Also more money is to be made America than the UK. As there is more people to watch it. If the film is good and receives lots of Hype in the US more people will want to see it when it comes out in the UK months later.
