It's on nerves cells and their structure! Question: Why are sensory and motor neurons sometimes very long?

They are long so there is less connections between the nerves to slow the process down. It takes longer to pass something on than it does to go straight on without any interuptions.

The junction between two nerve cells is called a synapse (lookup synapse). The signal crosses a synapse by purely chemical means, whereas it travels inside the cell (Nerve fibre)by some electrical means. Fewer synapses equals faster responses, faster responses equals better survival.

Simplest explanation is that it is quicker for impulses to go along one very long nerve cell than anything else.

I think it's because they have to stretch a long way around the body
