Fleas don't die in winter. In fact the eggs can stay live for years and years and then hatch out. Only way to keep them away is regular use of flea detterents on cats and furnishings. It's an ongoing war.

Fleas are pretty tough and no they don't die in the winter if you cat is an indoor cat you will still be plagued with fleas. To control fleas indoors. First use those advantage drops on the cats"Check with a vet" for use on kittens. For the house, get a large container of "Sergent's " flea powder. Sprinkle it all over carpeted areas, your mattresses and furniture, wash your bedding while you let the powder work. Put all your pillows in the dryer on high heat for 30 minutes. Be sure to wash and dry the cats bed"if it sleeps in one" or put it in the dryer for 30 minutes. After the flea powder has been on everything for an hour or so vacuum everything , then remove the bag from your vacuum place in a plastic bag and take it out to the trash. You have to do all this in the same day or else the fleas will just move to another area you're not treating and wait till you're done then they will venture back!

Another tip: If your cats eyes seem to be really tearing bad. Check around the eyes for fleas. The eyes are a source of water for fleas

yes, as long as you keep your pets cleaned, a bath and the house as well, especially the carpets, they like to breed under those throw rugs. Also in the crevices in the couch, steam clean everything. And hope that next year you won't have this problem. Then don't forget to have your pets treated for tape worms, they will get them from the fleas and will not show up in the stool sample. Usually after the first frost, fleas out doors are dying off. Tip, when you give your cats a bath, have a wet wash cloth, the fleas will run into the eyes and ears and nose. Start shampooing from the top, down to the end. Flea shampoo is not necessary, any will do. Vet told me that, don't use flea collars, fleas like to hide under them and they are toxic doing nothing but harm. advantage or behind the cat's neck is the best. all that came from vet, and i did it too. If you need to give your catrs repeated baths, thee is shampoos at the vet's office maybe at pet co, that you can use everyday, it is oatmeal based and have no soap in it.

i use to fight fleas and I ran across the greatest product. It is called Borax Mule Team Booster. You buy it at WalMart, or wherever, and put it on your carpet and furniture, and brush it in. Let is stay on for 3 or four days before you vacuum. If you have fleas they actually dry up. If you already have fleas infesting your carpet, redo in a month or so and you should be ok. It works great and I never had any problems with it harming my animals. I never have to use any collars or sprays for three years now. Good Luck

I use borax to kill the carpet fleas. Other stuff just seems too toxic. Also when u vaccuum you can put a small drop of w.e you use in the bag (or tank if u use bagless) and it will kill fleas inside the vaccuum so they wont crawl back out.
