Local economies can spring up entirely based on tourist spending.
The coast of Thailand is a good example among many. Caribbean countries like the Bahamas,certainly also. So yes; $$$, jobs, foreign currency coming into the country can actually be enough to help the country's economy.

Minor advantages : some education & cultural exchange.
