An iPod, as well as laptop computer or Sony PSP or other electronic devices, can be carried on. I always travel with a laptop, Sony PSP, and one or two MP3 players as well as a cell phone.
The only time you may want to double check this is if you're flying to London, I believe they are restricting certain things on NY to London flights or on the return trip.

I am an expert in travelling and I can tell you Yes you can included an Ipod because it a computer itself.

Yeah...ipods and gameboys...etc...they will however still have to go through the security check belt. To be "Demagnified"...lol
