Accountants used to be stereotyped as always having to wear suits and ties, however, more often than not they can wear oxford shirts and khakis nowadays.

I'm an accountant, and I used to work for a small public accounting firm. We were required to be dressed formally all of the time, because we never knew when we'd need to meet with a client. Formally meaning that the guys had to be in suits (not sport coats) and ties, and the women in pantsuits or dresses. In other words, no khakis, no golf shirts, no capri pants, etc. However, if you move outside of public accounting into the private sector, there are tons of accounting jobs where you can be in casual clothes-sometimes even jeans! I think it's basically only public accounting where you have to be "pretty" all of the time.
