No, heroin isn't the biggest killer. It just isn't affordable enough to have that sort of impact on society. The sort of drug likely to bring top ranking stats would need to be readily available and relatively cheap. Cigarettes or alcohol, for example.

Heroin in its purest from is a relative clean drug but users can easily overdose. The most vulnerable times are once a user leaves a detox centre / rehab, following release from prison or in the early stages of developing a habit. Heroin on the market at present is not very pure and is cut with other drugs like valium and ketamine which in themselves can have similar effects to Heroin but have their own side effects not found in opium. In sumary Alcohol is probably the most dangerous drug available and is responsible for more deaths in our country than any other substance. Because it is widely available and legal people tend to be ignorant to its possible dangers. Unfortunatley any drug is addictive and being human beings we tread a fine line between controlling our habits (of any kind) and letting these spiral out of this control.

I think cigarettes and alcohol are pretty high up the list.
I know that lots of people die from drug abuse with heroin and such but i would have put heroin lower than a few of the more common ones

Alcohol is much worse!
Read 'The Natural Mind' by Dr. Andrew Weil
Also, if heroin would be handled by the gov't the way alcohol is, it might a become more benign than alcohol is (which is one of the worst drugs humans use).

i would say that smoking is the worst.
as an ex smoker and a nhs worker.
I have seen more people come in to hospital dying of smoking related illness than drug related.
you need to look in to the stats but thats my opinon

Alcohol is.
Society accepts it because it since its not against the law to drink, therefore people overlook the danger.
You have withdrawals from alcohol that can kill you.

According to lab tests, methadone is more deadly and is
cheaper to produce and get through searches. Also more
addictive, so keep away from it.
