I need opinions on what you think of Ford (f) and General Motors (gm) as a long term investment?

Wow, is that a loaded question! I guess it comes down to what your opinion is of their management and their ability to become innovative again. I don't think either one will go completely bust. Another automotive company or some arbitrage firm would buy them out first. The question is how long term are we going? I would say that the outlook is grim for at least another few years. If you're a truly patient investor, it might be worthwhile, but for my money, I think there are better long term investments elsewhere.

Both of these troubled companies belong to the debt holders and the UAW. Holding common stock is a LasVegas type gamble not suitable for rational investors. Buy something solid like ExxonMobile or Johnson&Johnson.
