Due to inertia, anything that could "knock" the Earth from its orbit would have to strike it with a heck of a lot of force.
That much kinetic energy would cause the earth to lose cohesion and their would be a new asteroid belt where earth's old orbit was.
You could conceivably move the earth by "nudging" not knocking it gravitationally. Say, if a large rogue planet crusied through our solar system and caused the Earth to eithe swing slightly further or closer to the sun, or even if the rough orbital distance remained the same but the eccentricity changed, life would likely suffer a mass extinction, but not be wiped out completely.
Bye-bye modern civilization though!

The Earth would probably fall into orbit around Star Jones.

The seasonal variations would be totally out of control, and all life on EArth would probably die due to the irregularity. However, in the off chance that we get caught up in a similar orbit, we could possibly live, but that is unbelievably unlikely.

We would either hit Mercury depending on where it was in its orbit and then Mercury would burn in the fiery depths of the Sun or the latter would be the fate of the entire human race because Mercury wasn't there to hit.

it depends how it got knocked out of orbit. beause if it did it would be destroyed by whatever had such a great force to knock it out of orbit in the first place.

we'd all have this urge to become elvis impersonators... bush will have a high acceptance rate again..... people will get raises, gas prices will plummet..
war will all end, cats will stop shedding and coughing up hair balls...
televisions shows will be interesting again...
paris hilton will gain 60lbs.
so on, it's almost unimaginable what would happen almost devastating.
