Everywhere should have a smoking ban

UK: I do not know from where you are asking, but the ban comes in here next February. I have some experience of the ban in the Irish Republic. Pub takings are well down with some of the large pubs selling up and being changed into flats. Most pubs have an outside lean-to in the back where smokers congregate. Also outside the front door. Men are smoking far less but young women seem to be taking it up in droves. In the home, men are taking home beer to drink and this may be causing problems with the young children with the fathers smoking there instead of in the pub. Worth watching what happens in London especially...............

I have stopped going to the pub in Scotland. As a cigar smoker I'm not going to stand outside for an hour or more when I can stay at home in the warm and just get some drink from the supermarket much cheaper.

Why could they not have allowed for completely separate smoking rooms in pubs etc with proper ventilation systems. That way the non-smokers would not have been affected and both sides would have been happy.

There are some people that only smoke when they drink... You have to be eighteen to drink in a pub and if you dont like smoking go elsewhere... I will definatley be drinking at home with my mates smoking out the whole house if the pub banned us from smoking there.....

I don't do either so this doesn't really count but...
as a nonsmoker the worst thing is for me to step inside a pub and instantly be covered in nasty, smelly smoke coming form all those lighted cigs. It makes my eyes water, my nose itch and then the coughing and sneezing start. Since most of the pubs are restaurants too and I do enjoy a few of them I can't wait for the ban to take affect.
I'm tired of having to strip out of my clothes as soon as I step though my front door and toss them in the wash and run up to shower.

There's a smoking ban in my whole country and I'm still here!!!!!!!

Most places in Ireland have a smoking area which is outside but most have heaters and a retractable roof. I smoke but it's nice not to come home after a night STINKING of smoke, and you don't smoke as many cigarettes either. It's fair on the people who don't smoke.

As for picking up girls... keep a lighter handy and stand outside a pub/in the smoking area!!!!!

I dont go very often but I wouldnt go at all if there was a smoking ban, although my husband would probably much prefer to go to a non smoking pub.

No, as a non smoker who suffers a severe allergic reaction when exposed to smoke, I would frequent the pub. At present I struggle in public places because of smoking.

I am looking foward to the smoking ban in 2007 as it might make me quit once and for all. It is alway after a few drinks that I stray and end up smoking again.

This is tough as I smoke sometimes but don't like it when I'm not smoking and can smell other peoples smoke. Its pretty silly and unfair really but thats how I feel. So in answer to your question........it would bother me a bit if I wanted a smoke but couldn't but I'd probably stick with my pub as I'm not really one for change but thats a whole other story.........
