My school is very close-minded. I haven't met anyone in my school who will say that they are anything but straight, and it makes me feel like crap alot of the time. I have a couple of sexuality 'issues', but my mum has forbidden me to talk about them, just because a group of girls tried to beat me up once just for saying I was bisexual. I live in a bit of a hicktown, and so not alot of people are open-minded about those sorts of issues.

I'm a former teacher, and now I work with teachers and administrators in a lot of schools as part of my profession. I only know of two high schools out of the 7 or 8 I deal with regularly that have any kind of program for GLBTQ (Its hard to get those initials in order!) teens. The others are pretty silent on the issue, and it's a shame!

Also, I know as a former middle school teacher, there is a need at that level as well, and it seems school districts are scared to death of dealing with sexuality issues before high school, because parents fear that you'll be pushing their kids into sexual behavior. Like they aren't doing it anyway! Anyway, I know of no programs in my area for kids younger than high school.

It is often rough in High School, but it gets better in must colleges (non-religious ones, at least).

I go to the University of North Carolina, and there's an entire bureaucracy for the GLBT population. I think there's even an assistant dean for GLBT affairs. There's also a great tolerance training program for professors. Once they go through it, they put stickers outside their office doors and logos on their webpages that say "GLBT safe zone." It's pretty cool and makes you feel comfortable.

I would say that my school is very open minded about it. We have a club called Gay-Straight Alliance. it's fun. We go to plays and do fundraisers and things. There was one problem when some straight people came in and started making trouble. (spreading rumors about who was gay and wasn't). They were suspended. But other then that, are school is very excepting of all people. After all we are all human.

If your local schools don't offer any kind of social or support group, look around and find a local chapter of PFLAG! They are awesome about helping set up this kind of thing. Kids who do not have anyone to talk to who are like minded in this type of thing are much more likely to attempt suicide. Social acceptance is very important to a teenager dealing with being gay.

My school doesn't have ANY support programs or anything. Actually, the majority seems to be homophobe- including some teachers.

PS: Weekend is as boring as ever, LOL.

Here @ Drake University we have a Rainbow Union which celebrates Coming Out Week and Pride day and is a safe haven for the GLBTQAs on campus. I love it.

They're not open at all. In fact, they seem to believe if the don't address the fact that lesbians go to this school, we'll all just go away.
Pisses me off, that's why I can't wait to leave.
