being gay myself, i wonder why there is so much criticism in society. Anyone who is gay would know that it is not something you choose. Why would someone give up the chance to get married, have kids, and avoid all of this discrimination? My case has lead to depression, because i cannot help it, and i know i will not live a life that i want to live - and i cant help it. Why dont people understand ? if only they experienced it themselves. No wonder there is so much depression and suicide in teenagers - because they know they are not accepted, from homophobics, the church, and generally everyday people.

If you are going to criticise me - please do not answer...

Hey, I know what you mean. Sad how many prejudice people had to weigh in on your question. We are normal, natural, regular people. The ones with the problem are the ones that delude themselves into thinking they know how other people should be. They don't. They are ignorant and incapable of grasping that they are in a narrow little box and missing out on much of life. There is no right or wrong about sexual orientation, it just is.

Here's the thing, though. You can have the things that you seem to believe that you cannot. Many churches marry gays and lesbians - they recognize that Christianity, Judaism, etc are not about intolerance and judging love based on gender. Most states allow gays/lesbians to adopt, and ya know, your own reproductive system works just the same as straights, so there are options there, too. There are states that recognize domestic partnerships, civil unions, and ever marriage in Mass. And, there are areas to live where gay families are accepted. Don't let the ignorant idiots convince you that you cannot have a full life - you can and you can have it with a same sex partner. It's all possible once you make peace with yourself and stop believing the judgments of those who do not actually know what they are judging. The road may be harder, but it does not mean it is not worth traveling. Just start walking in the direction that takes you where you want to go.

It is because society is HYPOCRITICAL when it comes to homosexuality. Period!
Society refers and adopts religion or sin as a concept but the real fact is more and more straight people have abortions, protections, baby cloning, cohibitation, extra-marital affairs, child molestation, capital punishments, single parents, sex before marriage and etc.
The best way to avoid depression is to move to a place where you would feel belong, comfy, accepted, no-judgement and the most important to find a set of friends who are with you rather than against your lifestyle.
There is no point for you to sit and think about how cruel the society is. You need to find a place who you can call it home because being a minority is often subjected to prejudice, hatred, critism and hate. Same thing with those immigrants, deviants, colored and other miniroties who are unique with different culture, background, sexuality, lifestyle, belief and interest.

Because people fear what is different, what they don't understand. Most folks are brought up being told "when a man and a woman fall in love" so a same sex couple is not what they were brought up to accept so they can't understand why two people would want that. And yes I said want that cuz most also don't understand that your heart makes the decissions not your head, just as a straight person might fall in love with a not so popular girl whereas they always wanted an extreamly popular girl, a gay person cannot help that they fall in love with someone of the same sex and not everyone can understand that.
All you can do is incourage folks to embrace difference, I don't agree that same sex relationships are what God originally planned but that dosen't stop me from knowing a lot of great wonderful gay people and accepting them as is no matter what.

Church has done wonders in glorifying the inequality of people. Allegedly all men are "created" equal accept gays.

Being gay means that you have to be stronger than all the biggotry around you. There was a time where i felt i had no self worth and wanted to die because i listened to how society treats gays.

I dicided to be stronger than the bigots around me and stopped listening to the hate speech. It hard when it is everywhere, but having good gay and straight friends helps immensely.

-especially if your family is biggoted.

I am not sure why people do the things they do. My feeling on it is, if your happy with the person you are, and the person your with, than the people of the world shouldn't concern themselves with other people. If your happy than good for you. Everyone should be happy. It is thought to some people to be wrong, but i know that you can't help the way you feel. And if your not hurting yourself or anyone than the need to back off, and let you live your life, the way you see fit.

Because people are close-minded. They say its cause the bible says its wrong they say cause its weird blah blah. Its normal and natural to the person who is gay. I think someday society will accept gays and will look back and think how could we be so ugly so long ago. I am not gay but I love gays. I think they are some of the nicest people out there these days.

More and more, it is becoming acceptable as a life style. Religious bashing will exist for some time, but dogmatic religious nuts are becoming fewer and fewer, thankfully. I agree with your statements, this bashing of Gays is unacceptable, account for much misery that is needless, and is very misleading to the Gay people. good luck and peace. Ignore those who bear you negative energy in your life. The best revenge is success!

It's accepted in civilised, secular society. It's rejected by unreasoning religious zealots. Frankly, I'm proud to be rejected by the Southern Baptists and the Pope - I feel I must be doing something right!

Because we're different. Society likes things that fit in neat little boxes, and we don't. Ironically, they're willing to love us until we admit we're different. Don't let society get you down - you are who you are, and anyone who tells you differently can take a flying frick at a rolling donut.

Be proud of your identity!!

Reword your answer with Pedophilia instead of Homosexuality and you will understand the answer. Don't think that I am equating Homosexuality with Pedophilia. What I am saying is that all cultures establish normative values that they seek to promote. In some parts of the world, Buddhist priest where paid by parents to ritually 'de-flower' their pre-pubescent daughters. That this is horrific to us is because we establish powerful norms against such behavior. So, with Homosexuality.
