WHAT?? THERE ARE OTHER THINGS BESIDES THE INTERNET?? WHERE!!???
no, i'm just joking around, sorry. those are some great hobbies you chose there. here are some suggestions of hobbies during winter mos:
learn a musical instrument (try piano)
digital photography
aquarium
doll making
drawing
painting
pottery
collecting: you tried coin and stamps but how about other things (antiques, bottle caps, comic books....)
knitting (is that different than quilting?), macrame
winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, sledding)
Selling stuff on eBay (is that even a hobby?)
Visiting an arts & crafts store like Michael's or A.C. Moore might be a great place to start! Just wander around the aisles until you see something that appeals to you! have fun

Have you ever tried tracing your family roots? There are a couple of free sites on the net such as www.familysearch.org and www.rootsweb.com that can get you started. If you don't know where to begin, interview relatives to find out your great grandparents names and when and where they were born. If you can find out great grandmothers' maiden names, you will be able to pursue even more branches of the family tree. This is a fascinating and addicting hobby and your research will be a boon to future generations. Once you have gleaned all the info you can from the free sites, a trial membership with Ancestry.com will open up an exciting new collection of data.

Might I suggest Magic the Gathering, a TCG that attracts millions worldwide. It's a very social hobby, but also very competitive if you wish to enter tournaments; which happen all year round.
For more information; the games home website is www.magicthegathering.com, I'm also happy to answer any questions you may have.
I can also suggest www.Magicdeckvortex.com as a fan website for information and articles; I am currently a moderator for a clan there so can put you intouch with a large number of players worldwide.
Other websites you could visit for information are:
www.starcitygames.com
www.cardsuneed.com
www.mtgfanatics.com
www.moxradio.com

My local craft store (Michaels) has a monthly class schedule. See if your store has one too. That way you can try out a hobby for about $15 bucks. Instead of the $50 plus bucks you spend when you try to do it on your own ("I NEED everything!!!) plus you get a knowledgeable person to ease you over the beginner mistakes.
Happy Crafting,
Ang
PS I love to knit dishcloths. They're nice/brainless/portable works so I can knit and watch TV, chat with someone, or wait for karate class. Good luck!

I bought a KNIFTY KNITTER from MICHEAL'S the craft store, but they are sold at WALMART too. It is very easy to do and goes by very quickly. They are little looms that com in 4 sizes and you can make some cool projects with it. So far I have made baby hats and I am going to donate them to the hospital. It takes @ 2 hours or less to complete a project. I also made a hat for my hyusband in bright purple and navy blue (he is a cornball and promised to wear it). Now I am trying to make slippers.

I actually took a knitting class and found it quite amusing! Other hobbies of mine include photography, making cards and other printed materials with PrintMaster software, cooking, and volunteer work.

try drawing comic strips with funny content. You can think of different situations and involve people who you know/like/dislike and create some action. It calms you down and makes you laugh. Whe n you make some pages you can show them to your friends and see what they think. :)
