I just started a business going to peoples home installing gutters. If you are getting a service done at your home, how would you want to pay?

I prefer to do business by credit card.

Speaking as an accountant, I would avoid doing business in cash. Obviously, it opens up a world of potential for unreported income (which might be a good thing, if you're not looking at this from an IRS standpoint). However, the risk is too large for possibly getting robbed, or a customer claiming that she paid you cash and you have absolutely no proof other than a handwritten receipt and your word against hers. Keep a paper trail by making copies of any checks received, or accept plastic. Those are your two best choices.

Well usually, I've paid cash or checks. You're running the risk of having checks bounce though, and the whole hassle of trying to collect the money after that. If you can, it would probably be a good idea to get access to being paid by credit card, getting the number over the phone to make sure it's valid and then doing the job.

Cheque or cash. But then cheques are dodgy so cash I reckon.
