Over the last week it has been worsening, to the point where it is difficult to swallow, or eat, or go to sleep. I do not think I am sick, as there are no other symptoms as at all. Anybody have any ideas?

Yeah, you're sick. Look in a mirror and open your mouth. Do you see any redness? Any white patches? Even if you don't, throat pain and an inability to swallow are not normal conditions. My professional advice to you is to see your health care provider as soon as you can for further evaluation. In the meantime, topical anesthetics such as Chloraseptic spray can help.

Check the glands in your throat. If they are swollen you need to get an antibiotic for an infection more than likely.Sometimes the glands in the area where your leg attaches will also swell or those under your arm. It could have started as sinus or allergy drainage down the throat and now become infected. I have lots of experience with those things! I hope you feel better soon.

I had the same thing last year...it lasted for months! I didn't really feel any other symptoms. I went to the doctor, she took a blood test and said that I had Mono.

I asked her how that could be, and she said Mono can be caught just like a cold.

allergy related drainage in your throat may be causing it- but swollen glands in the neck can make it hard to swallow, see your doctor.
