Blood types actually evolved before the split between chimpanzee and human ancestors -- about 8 million years ago. Chimpanzees have the same blood type groups as humans do, determined by the same genes.

Some dogs have blood type AB, and so do most other mammal species. The ABO blood types PRECEDE the evolution of the human species by about 100,000,000 years.
