Your friend, quite naturally, is concerned with the proper storage of perishable foodstuffs.
Yes, the chutney locker will be fine, but do ensure that his sausage is properly wrapped so it cannot be gnawed by the resident gerbils.
Another risk is that marauding ferrets may gain access, remove the sausage from the locker, and nibble its tip whilst commenting on your friend's fashion sense.
They are very persistent, and nothing can be done, I'm afraid.

The chutney locker is always the first place to look. You'll find it next to the lube. They make natural bed fellows.
