The honda may be slightly more reliable, but I think its not going to matter much as yamahas are very reliable as well, this isnt the 60s the japanese bikes are all excellent.

Yes this is true. I work at a motorcycle dealership. In the industry they have what is called fail rate. Meaning the rate at which machines are brought back in for repairs in the first six months. Honda is at 4 percent, kawasaki 8 percent and yamaha 11%. So 4% of hondas come back for service and 11% of yamahas come back for service.

Failure rates vary from year to year and are highly subjective. I wouldn't give that a second thought.

As mentioned all of the Japanese bikes are reliable as a brick and rock solid. All of the manufacturers are very good about standing behind their products. I've seen all of them cover things that were obviously not due to a manufacturer defect. All in the name of customer service.

Get the bike that suits you best. Ergonomics, pricing and dealer support are the most important issues IMHO.
