They get scouted at talent shows and such, send in a tape of them singing, and if record companies and lables like them, they propose them an offer and get signed to a record lable, say sony. Then they make a single and an album.

That depends... do you have natural vocal abilities? if not, do you have the drive to develop what you have? do you have a unique sound? do you just have the desire to sing for a crowd or are you looking to be a pop star, make tons of money, and live in the lap of luxury? I'm assuming that, since you've named some major stars, you're asking how do these stars get to be stars.

Even if you have natural abilities, your best bet is to get with a voice coach to help you learn breath control and to fine tune your talent. I'm sure you've seen American Idol and how all those people make fools of themselves on national television.

The first thing is you have to be noticed for your talent. And the only way to do that is to sing. Join a band. Make a demo. Pass it out to radio stations, clubs, lounges. Play local live venues. Sing. Sing. Sing.

Make contacts. This is very important. Not just with other artists, but industry people. Everybody knows somebody... you can't be reclusive and hope to make it in the music business. Be reclusive after you've been discovered and have a net worth of 50 million.

It usually starts by singing in school or in a church choir, then you sing in pubs and clubs and if you are lucky, you are picked up by a record company. They groom you into a marketable product and if you 'fit in' with the current scene, or show something special, you are a 'star'................. In the old days, if you made a number one record, you went from Music Hall to Music Hall over the city singing 'the song' and maybe another. That was how all the 'stars' of the early 60's did it and where they 'learned their trade'..............
