No, not at all! You can be perfectly content without smiling all the damn time. It's not like most people walk around smiling constantly, at least not the sane ones...;-)

I use to get that a lot...my natural look when I am not particulary in any mood is a slight frowning look. People use to ask me if there was anything wrong. I use to get annoyed..because I am not an unhappy person. Then when I tried to make an effort to smile a little..I felt fake and looked a little weird. After a while..I would just let people know that this is how I look sometimes..and people who know me got use to it. I still try though..to make a conscience effort to not frown as much.

No.
I say no because although there is a big difference in my willingness to smile & in the degree of the happiness I express by smiling than there once was, I don't know if I actually smile alot more now than in the past or not.
Women do tend to have a higher awareness of & expressivity through nonverbal communication, it would seem to follow that if someone were to smile more, it might be women.

Is it possible that you just have alot on your mind. Stop what ever you doing this afternoon and think about the first time you learn to tie your shoes, the way a child looks at you. And when you do that do you smile? Sometimes we get so preoccupied that we forget how the outside world looks at us. We forget how good it feels to smile.

You are certainly not unhappy if you don't smile. You may be a person who does more contemplation. One good thing is that this will slow down the development of crows feet one gets from smiling too much.

when people try to be liked, they smile a lot. when they try to make a good impression, they smile. when people are not interested in a conversation or are just bored, they don't smile.
not smiling is not a sign of unhappiness. You might be happy, but don't smile, just because you have spinach between your teeth (just an example).
it's not a characteristic, it's just how people perceive us.

NO not smiling does not mean you are unhappy, you don't always cry when upset. It probally means that your are content with your self.
If you look at primates they can be showing fear when they smile. Babies smile when they are experiencing a 'safe' danger. - a good example of this is playing peek a boo.
I would say you are probally a content person.

No it doesn't.
I don't smile but I'm not Unhappy all the time.
Some people don't look too good smiling. it maybe the way their mouth is shaped or the way their face is shaped.
I don't look good smiling because i have large dimples that stand out when i do.
