IN Ottawa, Canada.........yard sales are considerd casual and therefore do not require a venders permit. This pemit allows you to collect sales tax and sumit it to the province. If you had a yard sale...say every week, then you would need one, because then it would be treated as a business. You dont have to collect the tax from the customers, but you still have to pay it .Any business in Canada has to consult with the city it's operating in, along with the provincial and federal government for all the rules ,laws, and guidelines which effect it

Each locality has rules for yard sales. In my county we are allowed two yard sales per year. Anything above that is considered regular selling and requires a sales tax license.
