We have to drive miles and the wife of this friend is loud and obnoxious. I don't enjoy these visits and they're always drinking. I'm an alcoholic and this makes me want to get blotto. He sulks or worse if I don't hide my feelings.

I assume that you have told him that you do not like these trips. But if continues to make you feel guilty, etc. if you object to going then it is painfully obvious that this guy does not respect your feelings. Dump him - look for someone that will respect you - you deserve better!

He may want to show you off becuse he is proud of you. Mention that you need time for just the two of you to spend together and that you would rather be alone with him than always visiting his friends maybe once a month you could visit for an hour thats long enough then leave if he really is interested in your feelings he will be more than willing to comply

Hum,,,he wants to include you in his life at a very personal level, however there is the Alcohol problem, tell him as much as you want to share these relationships with him,,,the too of you need to find some that are safe and supportive for both of you.

I bet he wants you to go because he enjoys the togetherness of the people he cares about. I guess my question is if you hate going so much why do you subject yourself to it...if he gets upset then you need to decide what bothers you more ..him being upset or settling for a less than pleasant evening. Your feelings are yours and only you can determine the bestway to deal with them...

first of all you are putting yourself at risk for a boyfriend who obviously is not concerned about your well being. otherwise he would not insist on putting you in jeapardy of relapsing with alcohol. you have to take charge of your life and not go... you also have to reevaluate this relationship..which i personally feel is unhealthy... and obviously one sided. he can sulk his *** right out of your life. period.

The best answer to your question is simply this: If he is but a boyfriend, and you dont want to be forved to go see his friends, either Dont, or just leave him and you wont have to worry about any of it!

maybe he's proud of you and wants to show you off, but he's know what obstacle's you face with alcoholism and should be listening to you and NOT him!!!!
