But in all honesty dont they say that phrase because theyre jealous of what they dont have. Even when blacks were still slaves werent the others blacks jealous because they werent living in the warm houses of the white and eating better food.

I'm Asian American, not Black, but I think you've got the usage wrong.

"Uncle Tom" comes from the name of the protaganist of "Uncle Tom's Cabin", a famous book by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

Blacks don't like the fact that the book portrays the stereotype image of Uncle Tom as the long-suffering, patient slave who remains loyal to his white master.

As such, "Uncle Tom" refers to a Black who continues to submit to the white regime, rather than stand up for himself as the more militant Black would advocate.

So it's not just that the "Tom" has what the "have nots" don't - it's that the "Tom" is tacitly sustaining the very system that keeps other Blacks down.

they are jealous of success except in entertainment or sports
and call those who don't "act black" (behave like a thug or a no class fool) or speak proper English etc. an Uncle Tom

It does seem a way of saying that a black has sold out or has denied their heritage
