Right Click on MY COMPUTER and pick PROPERTIES. The amount of RAM that is installed, is shown.
Check your computer or motherboard at http://www.coastmemory.com Their prices are resonable. If the memory that you get does not work, they accept returns and/or replacements. Shop around if you want, but be sure that they are RETURNABLE. At this point, you should have at least 512MB for your Windows XP computer.

to know the type of memory without having to open your computer you can right click "my computer" on your desk top and it is listed at the bottom of the "general" tab.
To safely find out what type of RAM you have check your manual or contact your vendor (if you are an advanced user you can pop open you computer and look at the RAM or go into your BIOS)
To buy RAM try Tiger Direct.

If you go into control panel then in xp performance and maintenance, then click on system that will tell you you CPU speed and ram and the venison of xp. or you can go to start and right click my computer then properties will do the same thing. for hard drive in click on my computer then right click on the hard drive you want info on.

If you are using Windows (any version from 95 to XP) click on my computer and find your hard drive (local disk or C drive) and right click on its properties.
To find the ram and cpu speed right click on my computer, properties and the details will popup!
