Battery was checked with hydrometer and load tester and checked good. Starter removed and tested at Auotzone and checked good, reinstalled all connections cleaned and cables in good shape still just a click. There is 12 volts at the starter and when key in start position there is 12 volts in solenoid wire at the starter. Just a click. I'm stumped

It will start when pushed or rolled down a hill and charging system checks good. It has a 5 speed transmission and the clutch saftey switch is working properly

Autozone said the starter was good - oh my.

If the solenoid goes, the whole starter is bad.

My BMW clicked as well - I was able to jump start the car with the clutch. I replaced the starter and all was well after that. Buy one from Ford and not from Autozone. Also buy an alternator because those usually go bad at 12 years - both parts shouldn't cost you more than $250 if you can install them yourself.

Okay..I'm going for best answer here....Have had this happen several times. If the battery is indeed good, starter solenoid. You can try the "monkey wrench test". On some cars if you physically beat the **** out of the solenoid on the side of the starter it will actually kick on, works for a busted bendix on the starter as well if you are in a pinch it can get the car started and home. I've seen people beat on starters for almost a month straight before having to replace. But alas it sounds like you do need a new starter.

I would try jumping aqcross the solenoid to see if you have a bad solenoid. If you have 12 volts at the starter when in start, but still clicks, you may want to check for a voltage drop in the cables. You could still have 12 volts to the started but a bad cable that will not carry any amperage.

Also, I would check for a voltage drop in the ground side of things. If you have a bad ground, will will have 12 volts, but no load drop.

the soleniod on a ford is not on the starter. the first thing i would do is start it with the jump then pull the negative battery cable, if it keeps running i'd bet you have a bad ground and it's not completing the circuit.

Check the carborater, altenator, spark plugs, the air filter, and the converter. check and see if you have gas in the thing too.
