well snakes are great pets but i advise you to research on them before you get one and also make sure you really want it first and if its your first one i recommend either a ball python or a corn snake they are great first time snakes and they don't die easily and you just have to get a tank with a screen lid and i would place some books on top of it and the snake wont be able to get out or get a lock one i have pet snakes and other reptiles and there just great I've only lost one once and it was a baby one but i found it the next day. I also recommend not getting any reptiles from the pet stores like pets mart and pet-co i would advise u to get it from a breeder or a trade show and if she really doesn't like snakes and u would really like a reptile i would advise u to get a leopard gecko which i have had a lot of experience with they are very cool geckos and lots of fun and there cute as well
I would tell you to take your mom to a Trade show where there are a lot of reptiles which you and your mom and decide on there is a big trade show called The North American Reptile Breeders Conference and Trade Show and you can find info. on that at NARBC.com so that is an idea well i wish you luck convincing your mom

Im a mom of a 7 twelve months previous that has a gopher snake. i'd ensure you do alot of analyze on the animal which you incredibly choose. verify to be waiting to respond to any question which you mom would desire to have. mom questions are like ... Snakes stay an prolonged time 10+ years, so who will shelter it once you pass to college? How lots will it fee to feed? How large will it get? undergo in strategies snake fee alot of money in the beginning up, cage, lighting fixtures, etc. are you keen to assist pay for that? are you able to've snakes on your section? In some aspects snakes are unlawful. That mentioned our 4 foot gopher snake is probable the better puppy we've had. you purely could feed it each and every 10 to fifteen days. The cage purely desires to be thoroughly wiped sparkling as quickly as a month, and notice wiped sparkling while the snake poops. they are quiet and if cared for appropriate do no longer you dont could carry it to the vet,so no vet expenses. To you i'd propose getting a corn snake for 3 reason. a million) as a 13 twelve months previous boy you ll want to hold your snake alot and corn are much less aggressive 2) python can grow to be very large/heavy and desire a extensive enclosure 3) maximum corn snakes will quite take frozen mice the place python are extra choosy approximately nutrition and choose stay mice that are extra durable to purchase. sturdy success

It's possible that she just is afraid of or doesn't like snakes - not uncommon. My advice is whenever you bring up the topic to stay calm and polite. Try to see her side of why she doesn't want you to own a snake. If she is absolutely firm about it - suggest maybe a less threatening type of reptile like an iguana, water dragon or leopard gecko. Definitely do your research so you can answer any questions she might have. But hey she just may not like reptiles period and if you can't change that then you'll have to wait until you've got a place on your own. I'm sure there is a pet you can both agree on.

Your mom is afraid of snakes. Even if you have a screen it doesn't mean that your snake cannot come out. Most pet snakes are not dangerous as long as they are fed properly. Tell your mom that your snake will be in a secure tank and that if you get to feed it properly, your snake will be well taken care of.

Snakes are escape artists. Having a screen top is no guarantee. I have had secure tops & the snakes pushed the tops off the tank! They are quite strong. Several breakouts over the years I had them.
Whatever happens, at some point, if you keep snakes,
one will get loose. No question about it.
Keep this in mind!

Is your mom afraid of snakes (I know I am) if she is then don't bring one in the house. Wait until you are older and have a place of your own. Snakes take alot of care and money,
Even with the best tanks and screens, snakes can and do get out, it's in their nature.
No I would not get a snake.

Well, I don't have any good arguments FOR getting one, but I have plenty of good reasons NOT to. First off, why the heck do you want a snake in the first place. Let's check our options, a slimy, icky, slithery snake, or a fluffy, soft, fuzzy dog/cat. I see your point. Just kidding around.
Your mom says that the snake will "get away and die in the walls" of your house. This summer, a cat in New York City was stuck in a wall for two weeks without food or water. If a cat could survive, a snake could easily live off of mice, rats, unsuspecting squirrels, etc. Of course, it sounds like your mom is just grossed out by snakes. I'd advise you not to get one, or it might just "disappear" one day while your in school.

well, as long as you have a screen it wont get out. and plus, snakes cant climb up walls. Try taking her to a pet store, and ask if you can hold one of the snakes to show her how good you are with them. Dont get a scary looking one. you should show her a corn snake or a king snake. They are very easy to take care of and they dont usually bite.

Well for one a screen with out a proper latch the snake can get out of its tank even if you think its to small to get out it can. Some people just don't like snakes your mom may be one of those people. Mine wouldn't let me have one but now that I have my own home and have snakes she has gotten used to them over the years and will actually hold one of them. But that took years of doing and patience on my part and hers. Yes they make great pets if you get the proper one for your experience just not everyone wants them in their home.
