Yes. Replscing an LACD costs atleast $560. I also ended up paying $570 after my warranty expired. But $679 under warranty is way too much. Why don't you try another authorised Company Dealer or the company itself. They must produce you some good suggestions. But next time be sure that you close your notebook properly.

well, it's outrageous that since you're under warranty (and IF your kind of damage is covered by the warranty, check the warranty coverage if it cover your kind of damage) you're asked to pay for $679. Perhaps by pricing like that, they're trying to persuade you to buy a new laptop. It is fairly impossible to repair it for free if it is physical damage, but perhaps it shouldn't be $679. Some laptops might be able have its monitor replaced, you should try replacing the monitor with a new spare part monitor, rather than fixing it. (or buy a new laptop, as they have wished)

Well, you hit a little bump in the hi tec highway. What's the best way out of this problem?

Get a refurbished laptop from Apple. I have purchased many refurbs from Apple for my school and we have been very happy with them. sometimes a company will order a lot of computers, and then something happens and they have to cancel. When sold merchandise like this goes back to Apple they can't sell it as new.

Also, people often just change their minds and refuse an order for many reasons. Same deal. It Goes into the refurb line.

Apple also has good deals on education packages if you qualify for that.

You don't actually have to get refurbs from Apple as there are companies that buy up many refurbs and resell them locally. I have purchased from those companies as well.

With refurbs, you get a shorter warantee period. You may ask if they have a longer term insurance package that you can buy. I always do that just in case. Usually it has never been needed but if it ever is needed it is well worth it.

None of the warantees will cover a broken screen. Be careful!

Small Dog Electronics is a good outfit, so they have a lot of activity and good refurbs disapear fast.

99% of the time, warranties do not cover LCD cracks.

most companies have a split warranty for LCD cracks. there was once, Prestigio model, had a different warranty they willing to offer for lcd cracks. not sure of others though

here's a few tips for you next time :

1) dont place anything heavy on your laptop, best , dont place anything.

2) always get a good , i mean invest in a good zero shock laptop sleeve.

anyway, what you say is true. what i know of is that lcd costs half or at least a quarter of what your whole laptop cost! find a part off ebay and try to get it fixed, otherwise, just plug in a monitor.

if cost is too much, get a 2nd hand laptop :)

superb purchase does not have the excellent provider... purely tell them it become a mistake and see what they do. till then, maximum laptops comprise an HDMI or a minimum of a VGA port. purely connect the two your HDMI or VGA (I propose hdmi) to a visual show unit, or television show screen. even nevertheless your show screen is broken, it is elementary to undertaking it onto a visual show unit, permitting utilization to be thoroughly known. sturdy success!

if it's under warranty it should be covered unless it's physical damage which will void the warranty..... if it's covered they should reimburse you
