My 94 van wants to stall when I come to a stop but only when it's coming down from a higher gear. If I put in in neutral before I stop it will stay running. It's an automatic. If I'm just going from stop to stop it's fine. It has to get into a higher gear first. It's as if it doesn't want to downshift at the right time. What do I need?

Sounds like CCV solenoid. Unplug the blue electrical connector that goes into the trans and see if that fixes it. You'll loose about 3 mpg on the highway. Other symptoms might be engine has to be warm, must exceed 45mph. I had one that would not release until the car cooled.Once it locked you weren't moving it a foot....

To me that sounds like the computer that changes gears in the transmission needs to be reset. Try disconnecting the power for at least a minute and reconnecting.

Sounds like a loss of vacuum or your EGR is bad.
If the EGR stays open at low speeds it could cause this.
Is it throwing a code "Service Engine Soon"?
It could also be the Torque Converter Lock Up is not disengaging.

It does that because your car is 12 years old and you need a new one.

Idle set too low.
You may want to check for dirty plugs and timing.

It could be out of timing, or burning too much or not enough gas!!
