If you're talking about the U.S. soccer team, it's because all of the talented athletes in the U.S. are busy playing real sports. Like Real Football, baseball, basketball... heck, even hockey.

America's top athletes play other sports like baseball, basketball, American football, hockey, volleyball, swimming,etc. The climate throughout the country is conducive to all those sports. They are just not interested enough in football as other countries are. However, the women do seem to do very well. They are making strides with teams like D.C. United who play teams from other countries often, but they still have a long way to go.

Soccer doesn't sell in America. If soccer made big money in the US, then the US soccer team would monkeystomp the entire planet.

Few daddies teach their kids soccer, but rather football, basketball, baseball... That's why the "best" US soccer players are not such good players, while the best basketball players are amazing. There's much more choice: the best in soccer are like 10%, the best in basketball like 0,000001% (exaggerating).

because we don't care about soccer. our best atheletes play football, baseball, and basketball. our national soccer team is made up of people who aren't good enough to play these other sports.
