Were the British the first to introduce business licensing in India and if so when ?.Was it a form of protectionism based on privilidge/ethnicity ?.When was it finally cancelled, what if any were the economic benefits to the country following the change. If anybody can throw any light on this subject I'd like to hear their views.

oof.. british did not do licensing first. it happened far before that..
i have heard of kings in the days of alexander doing. .it..probably you need to check.. times of indus valley civilization also. because finding and evidence lead to conclusion.

we aren't sure of excellent..business branding.. but we have logos..branding slates.. and so many to tell the story.

further it up.. down the lane.. most kingdoms have it all.. check chandragupta maurya.. also.. for dis.

again..do.. check those southindian kingdoms.. specially cholas...i have heard a lot of organised trading in them.
