HF has been guided to react with SO3 , forming a
Stream of fluorosulfuric acid, HSO3 F. which is a
Strongest known simple protic acid. HSO3F is one of the
Bronsted superacids, CnF2n+1SO3F.
When HSO3F is combined with lewis acid flurides,
Such as SbF5 ( or BF3) forming a HSO3F – SbF5 superacid system, the acidity increase sharply up to –Ho = 26.5 following the reaction below:
2HSO3F + SbF5 <==> FSO3H2+ + [SbF3(SO3F)]-1
This superascid system is called as “Magic Acid”
