Rome is simply magical in the summer , Italians are up until the early morning, and the streets are full of life ,they are very hospitable and friendly with tourists,
Rome's monuments are amazing and their is so much to see, the old roman public water ways provides the cities fountains with ice cold water and fountains are spread through out the city, hard to believe it was made by the ancient Romans and is still so efficient,
I had my first real Italian pizza in Rome and have never tasted anything like it since, roman cuisine is very enjoyable try the "Saltimbocca Alla Romana ", Just outside Roman is a place called i Castelli Romana which is famous for its wines and they are certainly worth trying,
Last but not least is Ostia just outside the city and easy to get to with any public transportation , it is a tourist area, sea resorts you can find hotels with meals at very good prices,
Have fun Dody

Visit Eastern Europe first before it becomes too touristy and expensive. Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Hungry are all very beautiful, I highly recommend them. The majority of places listed will always be expensive and about the same 20 years from now. Not to mention you have gotten a pre-view on the Travel Channel by now I am sure. I like Italy but would avoid Napoli.

I've been to almost all those places!! I currently live just outside of Glasgow, and I can totally recommend it. Edinburgh is ok, but quite snooty. London sucks, full stop. I LOVED Italy - Florence and Venice are two of my favourite cities in the world!! Pisa was fun (got to see the tower!) too, and Rome was amazing.
Let's see for the rest: Paris is a must-see. Definitally a place to spend a few days (so much to do and see!!). I've never been to Berlin, but very much want to go. I didn't really like Spain much (it smelled funny!), and it was expensive. Ireland is also VERY expensive - Dublin was fantastic, but was one of the most expensive places I've ever visited!! The change to the Euro has really hit them hard! Nice and Monaco are nice, but you'll want to stay in one of the outlying towns (such as Antibes), as you'll save a fortune!!
For other nice places to go, Budapest is wonderful, and is very reasonably priced. For a fantastic website, try Ryan Air (www.ryanair.com) - they have fantastic prices, and go to a huge variety of places. My spouse and I flew from Glasgow to Paris (return) for £75 (total price), which is about $100 American, I believe, or about $150 Canadian. The flights were fabulous, and the service was excellent. (Plus, it's fast!) You can also try www.easyjet.com for cheap European flights, but I've heard that they get delayed and cancelled a lot, plus they are more expensive, so they might not be the best option!!
Anyhow, have a fantastic time on your trip, and happy travels!! :)

London - because I was born there. THE BEST tourist destination in Europe (in my humble opinion)
Some cities I also think are worth a visit:-
Naples - make a point of visiting Pompeii which is nearby
Florence - absolutely amazing!
Vienna - stunning
Edinburgh - fascinating
Athens - wall to wall history (same goes for Rome but I preferred Athens)

Prague. I went there on Christmas, it was like a fairy tale.
To answer you question - don't go to Milano for vacation, it's not worth it (too industrial). Rome can be hot. Paris is too hot in July-August. I would stick to Cote d'Azur (Nice, St Tropez, Ste Maxime - I spent two summers near Ste Maxime).
My friends recommended me Corse, but I have never been there. My dream vacation is Greek islands (Santorini etc.)

Of course, I am prejudiced but definitely Barcelona. Beautiful city, beach and close to the mountains if that's what you like. Lots of music, the "Merced" for example going on right now. Lots of night life and day life. The people are very open-minded and peace loving, to. ¡Visca Catulunya!
