Depends on the purpose of the song. Some are just-for-fun, some have deep meanings as far as words go. Music sets the tone and can help in identifying the meaning. So both can be equally important

Personally i think it depends... it depends on the song, and it depends on the music... some songs have a good beat and sh**ty lyrics, some other songs are the other way around, sh**ty beat good lyrics... how ever i think they are both important in a song, a song needs a good beat to gain the audience's attention, and the words are important because a song should have meaing to it.... Having said that, not many people agree with me, because, they have these stupid songs that say the same thing over and over and over, and people like them, these songs are good songs to dance at clubs with but other then that whats their use... the beat and thats it!! Take that song that was poular a couple years ago (well more then a couple, but you get the point!) Blue by eiffle55..crappy lyrics, good beat at the time ( to dance to) what do you think???

It's the music. If the music and the words don't support one another, the song is useless.

A catchy tune can have several sets of words put to it; look at rap. The words never get different music set to it.

I have musician friends who like certain songs but I hate them because of the words. I was an English major in college. I think you can ruin a good song with bad lyrics. I think both are equally important.

I usually like/choose a song for the words. It's the words that expresses the message of the song. It's the word that touches my heart.

Music....it's what draws you to a song. I've heard songs that had awesome lyrics, but the song just didn't work for me because of the lyrics. Then I've heard songs that the lyrics were just stupid, but I like the song because of the music.
