Downy! For homemade softener try a little vinegar. The smell will dissappear after the rinse cycle.

I'm a big fan of Gain Ultra. Its fragrance really lasts. Even after 3 or 4 weeks in the dresser, you can still smell the Gain. It also makes our clothes very soft.

i found that they all pretty much do the same thing, but original gain or snuggle in the green bottle smell best, i think.
