Create a thirst for knowledge within yourself... Think about and question everything around you - why? how? where? when? etc. Research these things and you will learn about them. You can find more information about pretty much anything in books, newspapers, on the internet, even on television. Join a library and start by browsing the reference and non-fiction books and see where it takes you - it is easier to learn about things you are interested in. Talk to people about their lives, memories, jobs, skills etc. Maybe sign up to some evening courses if there are areas in particular you want to learn more about. Ask lots of questions!

Spend all your free time reading encyclopedias, books, 'good' magazines, newspapers... books on history, science, everything you can get your hands on. Watch the History and Discovery channel too.

Disclaimer. I'm hesitant to even write about this, knowing the web's fondness for angry mob justice, but I feel like it's an important issue that needs to be addressed. My one request: please be calm and rational. Wordpress is a great project, and Matt is a good guy. Think before piling on the hatemail and flames. (Important Update: Followup to this entry, with an official response from Wordpress and Hot Nacho.)

Well, there are special fairy pod casts that enable transference of knowledge while you sleep, but i'm guessing you aren't an elf. So that won't help. Try reading more.
