PARIS (Reuters) - France said it could not confirm a report on Saturday that al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden had died in Pakistan last month.

The French regional daily L'Est Republicain, published in Nancy, quoted a document from the DGSE foreign intelligence service as saying the Saudi secret services were convinced bin Laden had died of typhoid in late August.

Yes, we are all being constantly lied to! If we believe anything from the media[anti-christ]! Osama Bin Laden is a made up character, fictitious, not real. Bush and his cronies made him up to legetimize their illegal activities, to put a face on terror and justify the illegal occupation of IRAC!

I dont think he is.... i think theyre just trying to make us feel better but then they will shock us by bombing another country.

The US government is unable to confirm a French newspaper report that al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is believed to have died last month in Pakistan, a US counter-terrorism official said on Saturday.

"We cannot confirm the account," said the official, who declined to be identified because he was not authorised to speak publicly about the issue. "It's quite possible (that) there was some talk of this, but in terms of being able to confirm this, that I can't do."

The French regional daily L'Est Republicain reported that, according to a French secret service report, Saudi Arabia was convinced that bin Laden died of typhoid in Pakistan in late August.

The French government has said it could not confirm the report and would investigate the intelligence leak.

The US State Department had no immediate comment and was looking into the reports.

Media reports suggesting that bin Laden was dead, seriously wounded or in ill health have surfaced periodically over the years, especially during lengthy periods of time without taped messages from the al-Qaeda leader.

US officials have suggested that his death would be accompanied by a surge of email and telephone chatter among bereaved al-Qaeda members, if not an actual announcement from the militant network.

But officials said they were not aware of any such chatter in recent weeks.

A factor fuelling persistent speculation about bin Laden's health is that he has not been seen on a new videotape since late 2004, while his second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahri, has made a number of videotaped appearances.

But bin Laden, 49, a Saudi-born fugitive with a $US25 million price on his head, has released several audiotapes this year, which US intelligence has authenticated.

His latest audiotape surfaced in July.

In it, he warned Iraq's Shi'ite majority of retaliation for attacks on Sunni Arabs and said al Qaeda would fight the United States anywhere in the world.

Allow me some paranoia here. First its reported from Saudi that he's dead yet when asked officially they say "HUH?" All wide eyed and baffled. Then the French newspapers pick it up and run with it but when asked to validate it "Well, so and so told us but we can't really tell you who because it was leaked and we'd get in trouble." Doing a fine job with their own country I might add. Pakistan knows nothing either and its all news to them. So who's jerking who's chain here? Show us the grave. Give us dna. Then we can issue a collective sigh of relief and get on with the business of pursuing those other pukes in Iraq, defoliate the opium fields in Afghanistan and coke fields in Columbia. And to the President of Argentina you're the devil but we really love your people and don't hold it against you that we've had to have bodyguards to keep us from being kidnapped/tortured/murdered in your country for over 20 years. Why the Balboa plan? Sounds like a contingency plan to me that some forward thinking American thought we might need with the likes of you. Just goes to show you, money doesn't mean class. Who says the media doesn't know how to make the news.

It seems he is indeed dead, whether from typhoid or a CIA operative, or a private bounty hunter, we will probably find out within the week.

If Osama were dead, Bush would be ALL OVER IT and using it to promote the war and republican party. There is no way they would cover that up.
