Didn't you ask this in Football? Well, I'll answer again. Hall of Fame. I would rather have a stellar career, lifelong notoriety, and lots of money to sit back with at the end of my career than be a scrub that rode coat tails to a ring ('96-'98 Bulls anyone?). Even if I don't win a ring I would rather be a legend.

I could just BUY my own championship ring ;-)

Anyone can get into the hall of fame. Malone will be there, Stockton will be there. Barkleys already there. But what do those players have in common. NO CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS.

No matter how much nonsense you try to tell yourself, there's no getting around the fact the reason you play the game is to win. WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP !

And the post above me is wrong about riding the coattails of other teams. If that would be the case why did Karl Malone and Gary Payton go to LA in hope of winning a championship before they retired , and both of them knows without a doubt that they will both be in the HALL OF FAME?

They know and Knew that without a ring it dont mean a thing

Records and legacy means nothing. Take Dan Marino for example. Probably the Strongest and greatest arm in football and beyond , records up the ying yang, known for his comebacks and ability to make the great pass for the long yards. But what does Marino lack you may ask A RING.

Karl Malone, the Mailman records as long as the eye can see, olympic champion, most feared shot blocker and defender. Ability to run the pick and roll like no other and also a gentle giant. But No NBA RING To show for it.

When you get drafted from College or High School for a professional team. And you're up on that stage in front of that podium the first thing you say is I'm going to work hard and bring a championship home to whatever city and team you're playing for. Not one person I've ever watched get drafted says "i'm just playing to get into the hall of fame.
