A considerable proportion! ... but not only search engines, a dictionary and an atlas would obviate many simple questions (as well as helping with spelling!)

Yes a huge percentage....but....there are folks asking questions for which there is no absolute right or wrong answer and the answers we give are usually a bit more straight forward and without disclaimers. I'm thinking of young people, for example, who ask about falling in love for the first time - we the people - have almost all been there and done that so we can offer our sage advice on what it's like, how it hurts when you get dumped...etc. It's a far cry from some clinical symposium that says "...but the hurt will heal with time..." Sometimes there aren't good answers on here either....and I do try for answers elsewhere before I come onto Answers.

There are a sizable number of fact questions like "how high is ..." Those are easy searches. I would guess about 1/3.
Where Yahoo Answers excels is instead in "What is you opinion about the best way to handle this family situation...?". That is probably another 1/3 and search engines are really worthless there.
The final 1/3 is the useless haranguing of people who are easily riled up when they see a taunt from someone they do not agree with, like "your religion and race are inferior to mine..." and also the kids who think they can get their homework done just by posting their problems (it gets done but not always correctly).

80-90% but I enjoy searching and often go back to look at the entire site. A lot of interesting information that I would have never thought of looking at without searching the question. So keep them coming!

This forum is very much a type of chat room...
Search answers and you will see that most questions have been previously asked many times...
All these folks know very well how to use search engines....

A good 90% of them.
But then again, if they knew how to use search engines, I wouldn't get any points for answering there dumb questions with my best answers.
