Bad idea. The physical distribution of music is shrinking as online music sales get stronger. If you open a store, you can count on sales decreasing 5% or more every year, once you get established. Even the big chains are declaring bankruptcy like the most recent Tower records bankruptcy. Opening a record store was a good idea in the 1970's when the business life cycle was growing. But opening one now is almost sure to lose all of capital you put into it.

Because you love music, you should seek out other opportunities in the music field.

Funny, I'm 41 and have always wanted to start a record store! The record chains are dying, sad to say,BUT their definitely seems to be a niche for the large independent record store. I live in LA, and for years when I would go to the Bay Area I would go to Amoeba Records in Berkeley because of their selection and price. They opened an Amoeba Records in Hollywod a few years ago, and it is doing gangbusters business. It drove another independent store out of business after being in the area for 30 years. I believe these will be the only types of record stores left in the future.

i know where there's one for sell for only $39,000. dont know if the inventory is part of it or not.
good luck, i would love to start one myself, but i don't see it happening anytime soon.
you will definatelt need a HUGE collection. the one here that closed due to the owner having massive heartattack was the best music store ive ever found, the guy had thousands of albums in a warehouse, if you could think of it, he probably had a copy of it, that is a great way to make customers happy when you get those hard to find things

what makes a checklist keep is that is inventory. detect a distributor. once you're finding to function a distinctiveness keep like oldies or vinyl then go searching for distributors who sell that stuff and hook up. once you're finding for extra present day cd's and such, distributors and distributors are key. in case you want to deal in used products then those will are available in certainly, purely ensure you have adequate interior the drawer to conceal the pay outs.
