while we have different attributes,
different skills, strengths and weaknesses,
we all have the same value.
One life is as valueable as another.
( men and women)
it is unfortunate that many on earth do not feel thatway.
finding instead that a person who is rich is worth more, or popular, or whatever.
but, if you ask God, ( who isn't impressed with wealth or physical things) we are all the same value.

Equally

If all men (or more generally humans) were created equal, we would all be clones. We would all speak one language, have the same identical intelligence, be the same hieght, have the same preferences, etc.

Abe Lincoln's phrase is not really accurate. People are not equal at all. What he really meant was that rules should apply equally to each person. Government and authority should use the same standards when applying laws, etc.

As an example, if the cops always harass purple people, but green people can speed and do whatever they want, then that is the problem, because people are not being treated equally. That's what it really means.

I do not agree all men are equal. There is much truth in some are created more equal than others. It is a great ideal but never seems to be pragmatic. It suggests all have equal opportunities and we all know this is not the case. Some are born with health problems and never can get into mainstream society. Too many are born in war torn areas which they never manage to escape. It is a great ideal to strive for because without it it destroys hope because some are able to rise above their poor circumstances.

All men are equal with respect to equal treatment by the government and under the law, although this is not consistently implemented. Note that it the historical document indicates "all men are created equal" and also refers to "unalienable rights" namely "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

The concept is that these rights are axiomatic - they are not endowed by any government or king or document. It is a revolutionary concept developed during the enlightenment. If people don't have these rights then it is because they were removed by initiation of force (initiation of force does not include self-defense). The proper purpose of the government is to preserve these rights "equally" for all people, in a political and legal sense. It does not imply a guarantee that one will attain happiness or preserve one's life, etc. ...

With respect to ability or anything else personally, people retain individuality.

Not in this country. At least not in the sense of the laws. If you think that all men are equal then why can't gay's marry and have equal rights, they are men too. It is only equal when it is convienient.

As far as men being created equal in the bodily sense...I have always said, they are just a bunch of boys that never really grow up. Not in a bad way, but they still cherish their toys.

Men are different from one another. They are not of equal height for example.
All men are equal in the sense that we all feel hungry if there is no food, that we feel pain ,that we suffer humiliation if some body hurts.
The idea in saying All men are equal is to tell you not to ill treat some one because he is different

We are equal in the sense that we are human beings and because we are natural objects that are created by a divine entity we have no point of better or worse. It is our actions that are better or worse. This is why all men deserve Human Rights and our actions should be viewed with moral praise or blame.

I believe that our souls are equal. Beyond that biological and cultural circumstances effect one's capabilities and accomplishments.

The beliefs of man, however, are not equal. That is ethical relativism to which I abhorrently object! Islamic theocracy is not better than secular democracy.

While it is true that All men are created equal... it is also true that some men are MORE equal than others.

"All men are created Equal"... is, in this day and age, a lofty idea and ideal but it is NOT true.
