Hi, i babysat for a family that underpaid me $100 a week for 10 hours a day for four days a week. it took them 3 weeks to give me my last paycheck. whenthey finally paid me the $50 they owed me, I deposited it in my checking account thinking it was a good check.. NO! their check bounced and caused a snowball effect in my account. anything i charged to my account BEFORE the return check came, would have been covered. So, i know THATS not my fault. But my question is: The family said they would pay the $50 again and the initial overdraft fees. My checking account is now negative $165.00..it was more but my last two paychecks were directly deposited in there so now ive lost my paychecks AND the money they paid me AND extra money. everyone else thinks they should pay their bounced check PLUS any other fees my account inccurred associated with that bounced check. what do you think? The wife said her account was negative 400 bux so she cant pay me. so, they have a history of not paying ppl.

That is a tricky question because different places have different laws. You have the option of taking them to small claims court. You need evidence: copy of the bounced check, your banking statement, statements from others they have pd w bad checks, etc. The bank sees you ultimately responsible for getting the money. SO GET YOUR MONEY!! Generally, sue for a little more than they owe as long as you can jusitfy it. The judge will figure things out according to your evidence. You will have to pay for the filing cost but add that to your suit i.e. $50 (what they owe you), $66 for the bounced check, $104 because the bounced check caused you the inconvience of other checks being bounced, $200 because they malciously gave you a bad check, & $100 filing cost.

Been there, not going back again....I hate to say this, but you may never get your money back. Even going to court, if you did not have a signed document stating how much you would be paid, the courts may find it invalid, I was livid when that happened to me, and the first time..(yes, I trusted her twice) I had taken something in trade in lieu of the cash, the second time, I lost.
If this happens again, where you get paid by check, go straight to the bank where the check is drawn from or get paid in cash, I also learned that getting paid in cash, you do not have to claim it on your taxes, and they don't necessarily have to 1099 you.
Good luck.

Don't babysit for them anymore!
Don't do anything with them that might cost you money like court. Sure keep on fighting to get you money from them but keep it between just y'all.
I know u said u didn't think they would do this to u but it pays to check out ppl REAL well b4 u work with them. U just learned that the hard way.
Another thing, I don't mean to be rude to u but stop bickering. U may have need to talk of this but it sounded like a child fussing about a toy that they lost but with you it was money. I know u lost money and u might recover it in time but don't fuss about it, OK. Don't be mad at me cause I had to put my two cents in plz.
TY and Good Luck

you could ask the economic enterprise even though it is extremely not likely that they are going to settle for fifty%. You for sure forgot that specific expenditures pop out of your account on specific days and did not bypass away sufficient money on your account to cover those expenditures so your stability went into the damaging. it is your accountability to easily remember to've money on your account to cover those expenditures which you have been properly attentive to once you opened the account. considering the fact which you probably did not do this, you owe the charges. Pay up.

its your own fault, that check didn't clear, you never use money that isn't "officially" yours yet. if they family wants to pay some or all of the fees then your off the hook but there is no one to blame about the overdraft except yourself. didn't you ever learn those principles in school?
